To make the most of golden hour, we grabbed a prime spot at The Montford Rooftop Bar for a fabulous happy hour. With handcrafted cocktails and locally brewed beers in hand, we watched the sun dip behind the Blue Ridge Mountains, casting a dreamy glow over the city. The chic atmosphere and unbeatable views made it the perfect way to celebrate the start of our Asheville adventure.
Dinner at Rhubarb (the restaurant part closed in February 2025, but still hosts private events)
We kicked off our weekend at Rhubarb, a beloved Asheville staple known for its farm-to-table Southern cuisine. While it sadly closed at the end of February 2025, its legacy of elevated comfort food and cozy ambiance remains unmatched. For those planning their own trip, Capella on 9 or Zambra are excellent alternatives for a delicious first-night meal.
Drum Circle at Pritchard Park
After dinner, we headed to Pritchard Park for Asheville’s famous Drum Circle, a free-spirited weekly event where locals and visitors alike gather to play drums, dance, and soak in the energy. It’s a must-do for any Asheville weekend—it’s lively, fun, and a great way to feel the pulse of the city. It takes place every Friday night as twilight.
Saturday: Art, Laughs & Live Music
Saturday started off right with brunch at Tupelo Honey, a Southern eatery known for its crispy fried chicken, sweet potato pancakes, and, of course, their famous biscuits. This spot has been serving up soul-warming dishes since 2000, and its commitment to scratch-made Southern classics makes it a must-visit. Pro tip: Order the fried green tomatoes—you won’t regret it!
Strolling Through Downtown Asheville
With full stomachs, we took our time wandering through downtown Asheville, popping into cute boutiques, bookstores, and art galleries. The historic architecture, including the iconic Flat Iron Building, added to the charm as we admired the mix of old and new. Asheville’s vibrant downtown scene is packed with street musicians, vintage shops, and local gems—there’s always something to explore!
Laughs on the LaZoom Comedy Tour
Next up, we hopped on the LaZoom Tour, an absolute must for first-timers. After all that laughter, we walked down to the street and visited Lexington Glassworks, where we watched artists blow molten glass into stunning creations. This working studio is a testament to Asheville’s thriving arts scene, housed in a historic warehouse that feels both industrial and intimate. It’s mesmerizing to watch, and we couldn’t resist picking up a one-of-a-kind glass souvenir as a keepsake.
Bingo at The Great Wild Nowhere (Closed in 2024) and Live Music at The Grey Eagle
We started our night with a round of bingo at The Great Wild Nowhere, a quirky bar that quickly became a local favorite—until it closed at the end of 2024 due to Asheville’s I-26 Connector project. The bar had an undeniable charm, blending laid-back vibes with a competitive spirit as patrons vied for fun prizes. While it’s no longer around, it remains one of our favorite Asheville memories!
Saturday night continued at The Grey Eagle, one of Asheville’s most beloved music venues. Originally a Mexican restaurant turned concert hall, this venue has hosted legendary musicians and up-and-coming artists alike. With an intimate atmosphere and a fantastic lineup of artists, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy some incredible tunes.

Wandering the River Arts District & Asheville Cotton Mill Studios
Sunday morning was all about art and inspiration as we explored Asheville Cotton Mill Studios and the River Arts District. Once a gritty industrial zone, this area has transformed into a creative hub where artists showcase their work in repurposed warehouses. We strolled through colorful studios, admired live painting sessions, and even struck up conversations with local artists who shared stories about Asheville’s evolving art scene.
Sports & Local Brews at The Bier Garden
For a change of pace, we hit up The Bier Garden to catch the UEFA Euro 2020 final. Open since 1994, this sports bar is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, boasting an impressive beer selection with over 200 varieties from around the world. Whether cheering for our favorite team or just enjoying the lively atmosphere, it was the perfect midday break before heading out for one last adventure.
Scenic Drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway
Before officially saying goodbye to Asheville, we took a scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, one of the most breathtaking routes in the country. Originally built in the 1930s as part of the New Deal, this scenic highway offers stunning overlooks, winding roads, and endless mountain views. With the fresh air rushing in through the windows and the golden light casting shadows on the rolling hills, it was a picture-perfect way to close out our unforgettable weekend.

Reflecting on Asheville in 2025, it’s impossible not to notice how much has changed since my last visit in 2021. Many of the amazing places I once dined at have since closed, and some parts of the city were hit hard by Hurricane Helene. The storm caused massive destruction, but Asheville’s resilient spirit is undeniable. The community has rallied together, and while some areas are still recovering, most businesses and attractions have reopened, ready to welcome travelers again.
