Water is the Driver of Nature
Water, it’s one thing Oregon definitely does not lack. I’ve heard the rain fall on my roof most mornings, the melodious sound of a river babbling over rocks, massive waves crashing onto shore, and turbulent waterfalls refusing to settle in a pool and make the leap. I will forever be drawn to water, I grew up in and around it. Water is wild and free, you cannot contain it. It will move what’s in it’s way and forge it’s own path. As I’m typing this blog, it has started to rain; looks like I don’t need my sleeping app tonight.
Take the scenic Historic Columbia River Highway drive along the magnificent Columbia River and gift yourself with some of the natural water wonders Oregon has to offer. Considered one of the most scenic drives in the country, it’s worth an entire day of exploring. I know I’m guilty of trying to cram too much into a day, but I highly recommend doing it all!
Start early and take your time to enjoy a few peaceful moments at each location. The waterfalls along the Columbia River each have their own personality, causing a different emotional reaction the first time you see them. In addition to the waterfalls, there are some great observation points overlooking the river and mountains.
A fair warning it gets VERY windy long in the Columbia River Gorge and the cute hairstyle I had planned for my picture with the waterfalls was non-existent after my second stop at the Vista House. While nearly being blown away and gripping my phone for dear life to get a quick shot, the view was spectacular and worth the craziness.
You can easily experience my list below in one day but I recommend making it an overnight trip and take advantage of the great hiking trails in the area.
In it’s entirety, my trip is 57 miles and would take an hour to drive direct, but where’s the fun in that. In total I spent seven to eight hours on this. Getting out of the car as often and for as long as I could.

If I had extra time, I would add the Angels Rest hike. It’s a local favorite and is supposed to have some the best views of the Columbia River
