The Ultimate Girls' Weekend in New Orleans
I hit the jackpot during my time in New Orleans—not once, but twice! Two of my best friends came to visit me on separate weekends, which meant double the fun, double the beignets, and double the opportunities to sweat through my cutest outfits. From sipping mocktails and cocktails in legendary bars to devouring all the Cajun and Creole goodness this city has to offer, these weekends were everything. So if you're looking for the ultimate girls' getaway, consider this your go-to itinerary for making unforgettable memories in the Big Easy!
Day 1: Beignets, Bourbon & Brennan’s
Ladies, grab your cutest sundress and prepare to glisten (aka sweat) in the NOLA humidity—because we are doing this right!
Our first stop is Bourbon Street for a drink at Bourbon Street Drinkery where the music never stops, and the energy is contagious. Whether it's a jazz band on the corner or a rowdy crowd spilling out of a bar, there's never a dull moment. Strolling down this iconic street is the perfect way to dive headfirst into the spirit of New Orleans.
Next, we head to Jackson Square, a historic landmark brimming with street artists, tarot readers, and breathtaking views of St. Louis Cathedral. This spot is a must for snapping that perfect NOLA photo. Take a moment to soak in the lively atmosphere and maybe even have your fortune told.
Shopping time! The French Market - Shops of the Colonnade offers a little bit of everything, from local art to vintage finds. Strolling through the market, you’ll find delicious food, unique souvenirs, and handcrafted jewelry. Whether you're window shopping or splurging, it’s a fun stop to explore.
Time to eat, and what better way to do it than at Café du Monde? The legendary spot is famous for its beignets, and trust me, you won’t be disappointed (I went there 3 times during my month-long stay). Prepare for a powdered sugar explosion, and don’t forget to sip on their signature chicory coffee.
Now that we’re fueled up, let’s grab a cocktail or mocktail at Brennan’s. This elegant spot is known for its sophisticated drinks and old-world charm. Whether you choose a classic Sazerac or a refreshing French 75, it’s the perfect way to toast to a girls’ weekend.
For lunch, we’re heading to Johnny’s Po-Boys for an unforgettable muffuletta. This hearty sandwich is layered with cured meats, cheese, and tangy olive salad, making it a true NOLA staple. You’ll want to savor every bite.
We’re ending the night on a interesting note at Antoine’s, one of New Orleans’ most legendary restaurants. The company was great but the service and food were not. We started with their signature Oysters Rockefeller and some charbroiled oysters, which were an acquired taste. Then ended the meal with the dramatic Baked Alaska. I mean if you’re not making a scene with a flaming dessert, are you even in NOLA?
And of course, we ended the night the same way we started… on Bourbon Street! Because why stop when you’re already having the time of your life? With one last round and some questionable dance moves, we closed out an unforgettable first day in true New Orleans style.
Day 2: History, River Breezes & A Food Coma
Rise and shine, history buffs (or just tired party girls looking for redemption).
Our first stop is Laura Plantation: Louisiana’s Créole Heritage Site, a must-visit for history lovers. This beautifully preserved estate offers a deep dive into the lives of Creole families and the enslaved people who worked there. The guided tour is both eye-opening and captivating.
Next, we take a scenic drive along Highway 18, a picturesque road lined with grand plantations and moss-draped oaks. A stop at Evergreen Plantation gives us a glimpse of the most intact plantation complex in the South. The beautifully maintained grounds and original slave cabins provide a profound look into history.
Now it’s time to cool off and unwind on the Steamboat NATCHEZ. This classic riverboat ride along the Mississippi offers stunning views of the city and an old-school New Orleans experience. Sit back, enjoy the jazz music, and let the river breeze work its magic.
For dinner, we’re heading to Cochon, a paradise for food lovers. Specializing in Cajun cuisine, this spot serves up some of the best slow-cooked meats (we had fried alligator!) and bold flavors in town.
Day 3: Park Strolls & Brunch Goals
Final day, ladies—time to recover in style.
We start the morning with a leisurely stroll through Audubon Park, a lush oasis filled with ancient oak trees and scenic walking paths. It’s the perfect way to slow down and take in a quieter side of New Orleans. Breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Brunch time calls for a stop at Picnic Provisions & Whiskey, a cozy spot known for its Southern comfort food. The fried chicken and biscuits are out of this world, and the whiskey selection is top-notch. It’s the perfect final meal before saying goodbye to this incredible city.
With full stomachs and full hearts, we say goodbye. Until next time, NOLA—you were an absolute vibe.
