An Asheville Culinary Adventure for the Solo Female Traveler

Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville, North Carolina, has earned its reputation as a top foodie destination. Blending the flavors of the American South with Appalachian fare, Asheville boasts a unique mountain-to-urban creative food scene. For the adventurous solo female traveler, this city offers a vibrant tapestry of culinary delights, ensuring both safety and satisfaction on your gastronomic journey.

Part 1: Memorable Dining Experiences

Sunset Terrace at The Omni Grove Park Inn

Perched elegantly with panoramic views of the mountains, the Sunset Terrace offers more than just a meal—it's an experience. The ambiance is upscale yet welcoming, making it an ideal spot for solo diners seeking a touch of luxury. Their menu boasts delectable steaks and seafood, perfectly complemented by the breathtaking sunset vistas.

Rhubarb

Before its closure, Rhubarb was a cornerstone of Asheville's farm-to-table movement. Chef John Fleer's innovative approach to Southern cuisine made it a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Its absence is felt deeply in the community, but its legacy continues to influence the city's culinary landscape.

The Bier Garden

For those craving a laid-back atmosphere with an extensive beer selection, The Bier Garden is a must-visit. Located in downtown Asheville, it offers a diverse menu ranging from classic pub fare to local specialties. The lively environment provides ample opportunities to mingle, making it perfect for solo travelers looking to connect.

Wasabi Japanese Restaurant

A delightful surprise in the mountains, Wasabi brings authentic Japanese flavors to Asheville. Their sushi bar is a testament to freshness and skill, offering a serene dining experience. The minimalist decor and attentive service ensure a peaceful meal, allowing solo diners to immerse themselves fully in the culinary artistry.

Corner Kitchen

Situated in the historic Biltmore Village, Corner Kitchen has been a beloved establishment for years. Known for its cozy ambiance and Southern-inspired dishes, it has weathered challenges, including damages from Hurricane Helene. The community eagerly anticipates its reopening, a testament to its cherished place in Asheville's food scene.

Part 2: A Culinary Tour to Remember

If you really want to experience the depth of Asheville’s food scene, a guided food tour is the way to go. I embarked on a fantastic tour that highlighted just how much deliciousness is packed into a short walking distance. Here’s a breakdown of the incredible spots I visited:

Zambra

This dimly lit, romantic tapas bar serves up small plates packed with bold flavors. Think crispy fried bites, fresh seafood, and inventive cocktails—all with a Mediterranean twist. The perfect place to sip a sangria and indulge in an array of unique flavors.

The Rhu Cafe

For coffee and Southern-style baked goods, The Rhu was a cozy and inviting stop. Their breakfast sandwiches and biscuits were absolutely divine, and it was the perfect place to grab a quick but delicious bite before continuing the tour.

White Duck Taco Shop Downtown

Tacos with an international flair? Yes, please! White Duck Taco Shop serves up some of the most creative and flavorful tacos I’ve ever had, with fillings ranging from Korean beef bulgogi to crispy fried shrimp. Affordable, quick, and bursting with flavor.

Blue Dream Curry House (Takeout Only)

Blue Dream Curry House is still serving up its incredible international flavors, but now as a takeout-only spot. From rich Indian curries to fragrant Thai dishes, this place is a must-try for anyone craving bold and comforting flavors on the go.

Manicomio Pizza

Sometimes, you just need a good slice of pizza. Manicomio Pizza delivered with crispy, cheesy, New York-style slices that were the perfect balance of greasy and delicious. A great casual stop to round out the food tour. Don’t mind the half-eaten picture - was too delicious to not to immediately eat.

Asheville Chocolate

No food tour is complete without dessert! Asheville Chocolate had some of the richest and most decadent treats around. Their handmade truffles and small-batch gelato made for the perfect sweet finish to the tour.

Asheville’s food scene is a true testament to the city’s creativity, diversity, and love for all things delicious. From fine dining with breathtaking views to laid-back taco joints and decadent desserts, there’s something for every craving. Whether you’re dining solo or hopping on a food tour, you’ll find that Asheville is a city that welcomes and embraces food lovers with open arms—and full plates!

So, fellow solo travelers, bring your appetite and get ready to explore one of the best food destinations in the U.S.!
